Last week I was perusing new blogs through the welcome wagon. I'll admit it, I was trying to earn points. Anyway, I came across one particular site and decided to leave a friendly comment and the next day I got this response:
SUBSCRIBE!
I clicked back on her site to decide whether I wanted to subscribe and I decided, based on the total number of "f-bombs" littering her posts (she had since updated, obviously, I had commented on a nice survey) that I did not want to subscribe. I'm sorry but I like to read interesting posts about your lives and I'm not interested in gross amounts of profanity! Instead I left another nice comment. I like to leave a comment whenever I can so they don't just see my "footprints" and think I'm just stalking. Sure enough I get another response.
SUBSCRIBE!!
Well for goodness sake, what if I don't want to... and what kind of request is that anyway? Personally that kind of request just makes me not want to subscribe even more. But I wanted to be nice so I decided to do the trial subscription. Unfortunately I couldn't find the option so I just clicked "friend request." Now some people see this as a more personal option, but I actually see it as less personal. To me, "friends" is a simple link to your sight that lets me view it and comment when appropriate. Subscribing to you however implies that I don't just want an
occasional xanga relationship with you... I want a
daily commitment, a "you're in my inbox every day," kind of xanga relationship. If I subscribe to you, it means I'm committed to reading what you have to say. If I just become Xanga friends with you, it's more like I just want to make a tie, but I'm not ready to add you to my daily reading material. It's not personal - maybe it's just that you never update - or maybe the things you blog about I usually can't relate to. In this case however, I just don't want to sit there and read rude, f-bomb littered blogging in some teenage internet language I don't understand. That's just the way it is. I'm not going to subscribe just because you tell me to in all CAPS.
I suppose you are wondering what response I get this time....

you know, i see your logic and it makes sense. well, at least that's one less stalker to worry about.
haha! wow - she just had to drop the F bomb in there.
Was that response in English? A typo is one thing, that was almost insulting.
wow, how rude! Sometimes people amaze me!
I know it was probably frustrating, but your post made me laugh. The insane actions of some individuals makes me smile =0
Oh, and btw, I totally agree that subscribing is more personal than adding friends!
Take care. P.S. I love the design of your page. It is so simple and so pretty.
whoa!!...sorry to hear about that....weirdos on the internet i tell ya!=D
dang!! boy does that suck....
Hey! Dan asked Eric 8 months ago at Nates house to be a groomsman and I was there with him when he asked. What doesn't he know? Have him call or message Dan or I if he has questions.
ps- I don't know how to message anymore since they changed this site so now you are getting a random comment from me! :)
pps- what is your phone number... I have a question for you!!
friendly girl, and what a way she has with words. I don't know, she might just be your new best friend - years from now you will laugh about it together over a cup of tea. Stalking, but I thought I'd comment.
whoa, someone's trying to be angrily cute...
getting up early is fun. it's even addictive when you're committed =D
thanks for ur comment on mr. squeek, i really appreciate it.

I'm not like that girl--just saying. Thanks for coming by and leaving me a note. I haven't posted an entry yet. Usually just use this thing to follow my friends. Anyway, thanks for the comment. Have a blessed day~Darlene
hey girl. yea it was an old post I really need to update. i will do that tomrrow on my off day. the cruise was awesome. this time around we went on carnival, we have always cruised with royal, the next time we will pay alittle more and go back to royal. to me, they are a better company with a better fleet. although we did have a good time on our destinations and the room was nice, the food and entertainment lacked a little. but all in all it was a cool experience. have any trips planned soon? hubby and i are going to disney world in a few months. i will update tomorrow with everything that has been going on.

Dear Kim,
First of all, thank you so much for dropping by my blog and leaving a comment, which is always appreciated.
This kind of online behavior really does generate a WTF type response. You're attempting to connect with another blogger. Isn't that what we're all doing? I love to connect with new people, and I can say with pride that a lot of my current readers have been "with me" since they left their first comment. The blogger sends you what amounts to a command: Subscribe! No matter what you do, they keep coming at ya. I'm pretty sure I would have blocked the blogger earlier.
I usually leave letters instead of comments. One time someone deleted my comment when they saw the length without reading it, and left me a comment telling me not to "spam" them. I was somewhat shocked. In the almost four years I've been blogging, I've "met" lots and lots of people and usually my correspondence with people is pretty positive. I don't subscribe right away to any site. I prefer to "answer comments" that I receive. I also belong to several participatory blogrings, and I run the Internet Island blogring, so I have lots of "lists" of bloggers so I can immediately get to someone if I want to. Like you, I use the "friend" list to keep track of people.
When someone has shown that they enjoy reading my site enough to leave me several comments, then I usually subscribe to the blog, esp. if the blogger has subscribed to me. I'm always saying that I don't visit blogs as "destinations" (although that's probably being hypocritical because I want people to visit my blog as a "destination" (in other words, not just because I left a comment on their blog)) I'm also pretty lucky in that most of the comments I receive are uplifting and positive.
Since this is my first visit, I decided to peruse your blog a little, and got to your video page through the video of the "jazz fire". I left a comment and five stars on your performance of "Winter Wonderland". Also loved your "self portraits" in your photoblog gallery.
Again, thanks for the visit and the comment.

Wow, that's kind of really creepy :|
Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for the comment, and I have to agree with you. WoW is probably the worst game ever made just because it does devour the souls of those who play it.
Cheers,
Skylar
lol I love it!!!!! That's so funny!
