BREAKING NEWS: "Healer" Pastor Michael Guglielmucci Faked Terminal Illness
by mr. oakWe did a Revelife Musician piece on Michael Guglielmucci a few weeks ago. It highlighted one of his songs called "Healer." The most inspiring part of the song was the back story - of Michael battling a rare form of cancer.
Turns out - Guglielmucci might have faked his terminal illness.
Reports are coming in from various sources that Mike Guglielmucci's story is fake and he's currently seeking professional help.
ok first of all - WHOA.
As a praise leader at my church, I was completely floored by this news. Our team has been prepping this song as a big push for an upcoming retreat - cause afterall, we all need healing in our lives...
It's been a good couple minutes since I first read this, and it's still not confirmed if this is true or not....but I went through the full gamut of emotions already - shock, anger, bitterness, sadness, and defeat. But something unexpected snuck up in there - forgiveness.
And if you really think about it - knowing how sin works, is there really anything surprising about this? Sin is just twisted like that - it'll take a cuddly baby bunny and give it a butterfly knife to stab you in the back. Sin just rolls like that.
But here we are - an opportunity as a community to fight the bad with more good. In the economy of God, nothing is wasted. I'm sure there's a plan for all of this. As another blogger put it, God is a God of second chances. One of His greatest acts was to forgive....and I have no doubt, God has already done that for Mike.
And in that - I ask the Revelife community to pray for Mike Guglielmucci. Pray for his church, pray for all those that may be hurt by all of this. And pray that healing may continue.
In ways - the song fits all the more....I believe You're my Healer.
Let's talk this out - how do you feel about this shocking news?

If it's true, that very sad. If not, I feel really badly for him that people are talking like this.
....wow.
Perhaps one could change the song to be about healing from the terminal spiritual disease of hypocrisy, which apparently he did suffer from, and which apparently God has now begun to heal him from.
Ironically, I've just been blogging lately on the subject of spiritual pretention and hypocrisy. Not that I wanted another illustration.
I'm so incredibly shocked and sad to hear this news. I love that song Healer and the story behind it made it even more special to me. I worry for Mike Guglielmucci and his ministry and reputation...and if this is indeed true I'm going to need to forgive him because I'm so disappointed...
i'm still working through my emotions, but even if this is true (and it very much seems like it is), it doesn't take away from how God has moved, changed, healed, and blessed people through this song. God can use the best of us and the worst of us for his glory.
i was really disgusted when i first read about this, but it's true that sin (and Satan) is just twisted and powerful like that. what exactly was going on in Mike's mind and heart to lie to his family, friends, coworkers, and the general public about his health and impending death? to me, something this serious has to come from a dark, damaged place - i don't think he did this simply to make money or have more fame, and oddly i do believe a part of him probably did want to glorify God through this song.
anyway, i'm glad he's getting professional help b/c i don't think it's so simple that we can write him off as a "bad person" or "not a real Christian." i'm sure he's going through a lot right now, as is his family.
sad. I am reflecting on the Donatists after reading this.
I think it goes to show that people, Christian or not, are always starving for attention. It's quite sad, really. We should be better than that.
thank you mr oak for this wonderful post. It is so wonderfully written.
We all need to remember that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. None is righteous, no not one.
Let's keep him in our prayers as he goes through this. May God use this to His honor and glory
God bless
This illustrates one thing that is always true...Christians are not perfect. A pastor I respect and love both personally and in ministry was recently discovered to have been sinning in a big way for a while and had to leave his ministry. I do not believe his sin negates the great things God has done through him and the people who have been saved and brought to Christ.
I am reminded that God is the only One we can fully depend on to be perfect. Only one man has ever lived His entire life sinless, and He has nail prints in His hands. When I hear of these things, I am saddened most for the person who has sinned, and I am also saddened for the way their sin affects others. However, my faith in God remains unshaken. People will always fail; He never does.
How very sad. But God is good, and merciful, even in our weakest moments and failures He can use us for His glory.
@Pickwick12@xanga - Amen!
@Pickwick12@xanga - Very well said! You're absolutely right, you can't take the failings of naturally sinful human beings and make that a reason to doubt a perfect, sinless God.
I expect loads of Christian/Relgion bashing after this
hrmmm... i don't know if I can fully embrace the veracity... so why would he (Mike G) wear the oxygen thing on live stage...
and wouldn't his wife, his community group, his accountability partner (if his wife is indeed his accountability partner) or w/e have noticed this before hand and rebuked him for it?
and since he's with Hillsong now... wouldn't they have noticed it and have him step down?
i don't know... but all i'm aware of if it is indeed true, then he truly decieved many... but i think God can still use this song in spite of this deception and this attempt at stealing God's glory...
I guess what matters and what makes a difference now is our response.
If this is true then I forgive him. There is a bigger issue here:what's going on with him? what's happening in his life/heart where he felt he needed to lie? If I could I'd love him through it.
I agree with the above posters who said that the pastor's actions do not negate how God used the song despite the circumstances in which it was written and performed. It doesn't make the way people were touched/changed any less real...hopefully we can remember to exercise a Christ-like attitude when speaking about the pastor.
Very sad news. But God does forgive; I could testify for days about God's forgiveness.
he looks like that goofy uncle from Full House.
This is true. As an attendee of Planetshakers City Church I received the notification early of what had occurred.
The email, very simply, stated no one knew and that people were being informed at our church before word got out elsewhere.
We ask you to pray for the Guglielmucci family, and indeed Mike himself. He is human and we are all fallen and have sinned. Please forgive him and pray that he can move on.
I personally ask for prayer for the members of Planetshakers who were mislead for a year over this issue with Mike in our presence, who were intimately hit by this. There are many who will be hurt and crushed, myself included, and I ask that you keep them in your mind as you pray over this sad turn-of-events.
Thanks,
This is so sad if it's true. I've heard of people faking healing or being healed, but never one of illness like this. And so high profile. Feel sorry for the church and the family.
Please note the oxygen tubes he has running up his nose while he sings.
His family had no clue? Really? That's a pretty big secret to be able to keep from your wife, without her ever getting suspicious.
@Pass_the_Aura@xanga -
I like it. The song still can have a purpose other then reminding people of a disgusting deception.
@Pass_the_Aura@xanga - You know it's odd. I've been reading and rereading Paul talking about those who preach the Gospel and their motivations. Some do it with honest hearts, some for personal gain...and yet Paul says he doesn't care, the Gospel gets out, and God does his work independently of the intentions of those who are preaching.
It also reminds me of the Acapella song (And they Praised God) same thing.
well, I have trouble having "feelings" about something uncomfirmed...
@Doubledb@xanga -
Confirmed. Or at least being reported as confirmed.
