My Musical Journey Continued...
Several months ago I wrote a post about Christian music and the hard time I was having finding music that I could get into (I'm really into punk/indie rock and hip hop). Many of you commented back with great suggestions that has taken me on a musical journey leading from one great artist to another. I was really amazed at how many little-known artists are out there, like many of you said, you just really have to search.
In my search I came across some pretty awesome songs. One song in particular really touched me. "Praying for You" by Lecrae, immediately got my attention because the lyrics are so honest and desperate, like a prayer set to music. I had never heard of Lecrae until recently but he's been around for a couple of years on the Christian hip hop scene and was nominated for 2 Dove Awards in 2007.
Here's the video Praying for You:
I have been trying to compile a list for a followup post but I'm beginning to feel like it's better to just keep on asking you all to make suggestions for each other.
So please recommend away...What are you listening to lately? What new musical discoveries have you made?

I love Barlow Girl, Jeremy Camp, Casting Crowns, etc. My newest favorite is Prelude. It's a group of 3 girls...Incredible! I originally bought their CD for my daughter, but I'm enjoying it, too!!!
Oh, I would enjoy a list...I missed that first post I'm into indie/punk rock as well, so it'd be nice to see what new things worked for someone who's into the same genres :)
The Fold, FM Static, Between The Trees, Grits, KJ-52,...you probably have heard of bands like Relient K and Hawk Nelson...
This might help you:

I've been listening to a lot of random things. I've put my music player on my computer on shuffle and just let the music play. I skip a few of the songs and wonder how in the world "that" ended up on my computer. I've also enjoyed some of the Christmas music that I have. haha! I've also been listening to some Selah and Dennis Jernigan. My music is completely random.
In my car, I've been listening to ABBA's greatest hits album, "Holy" by Cory Asbury and Matt Gilman and a mix of my favorite 90's songs. Today, I put in Norah Jones' first album.
I haven't made any new discoveries lately. I've been really busy and not interested in putting effort into finding something new.
Good Christian punk/pop-punk bands- Slick Shoes, MxPx, Craig's Brother, Huntingtons, Ghoti Hook.
Christian rock- Blindside, The Juliana Theory, Further Seems Forever, Mae.
indie: Hundred Year Storm
If your definition of "Christian music" is simply music written/performed by a Christian, then I heartily recommend Brooke Fraser (www.myspace.com/brookefraser). If on the other hand, you're referring to music that could be defined as "sacred music" (as opposed to "secular music") then I would suggest something along the lines of Hillsong. When you actually look up the word "secular" you'll see that much of what is considered by many people to be "Christian music," is actually, BY DEFINITION, secular music.
The music of Brooke Fraser is no different than much of what you'll find in a Christian bookstoore, though it's almost all, by definition, secular, though I think that any Christian listening to her music would find much of it is clearly talking about God.
Lecrae is a big fave in our house. Master 14 was pretty stoked last year that he got to hear him in Sydney at the Big Exo Day- I believe he is playing there again this year for all you New South Waleans.
He is raw, honest and glorifies God. He is also a great intro to Christian music for anyone who is into Hip Hop but not happy with the lyrics.
Thanks mrsD a big thumbs up from us!!!
Further Seems Forever is one of my favorite bands. Other than that I listen to everything else from Slayer to Bach.
check out mutemath and future of forestry
crazy awesome bands
I love Mae...they don't explicitly mention God or Jesus in most of their songs (only "Tisbury Lane" comes to mind..."Don't you know that me and Jesus will cheer you on?" hehe...) but I find their songs all very uplifting and energetic :)
i recently discovered mikal (pronounced michael) blue. good music.
check out these too - alice smith, susan cagle, mew, melee, kate havnevik, eisley, gomez, smoosh, landon pigg, res, michael tolcher, ari hest, tristan prettyman, the myriad, missy higgins, david mead, sia, rachael yamagata, story side b, maria taylor, ceu, kenna... oh i could go on and on...
@ Hubbaduh - I didn't know Brooke Fraser was known in the USA! :)
I'm very much an R&B/Soul/Hip Hop lover, so I'll definitely be looking into Lecrae more!
I love the Christian songs by artists like Mariah Carey (Make It Happen, Fly Like a Bird, Can't Take That Away, I Wish You Well), Paramore (Hallelujah, Let the Flames Begin.. Everyone loves Paramore!), Amerie (I see 'All Roads' as a praise song, it's so pretty, I recommend everyone have a listen. 'Somebody Up There').
I really like the song 'Heaven' by Live too.
