    Yes! I love hymns! "Be Still My Soul" and "Be Thou My Vision" are two favorites. Also, the new ones "In Christ Alone," "The Power of the Cross," and"How Deep the Father's Love" are awesome, too.

    I have a shelf full of at least 25 hymnals, including some dating back to the 1800s, so you can draw your old conclusions.

    I find it hard to pick favorites (as a worship leader, I try to just choose the ones that are going to be best for this particular service), but here are some I especially like:

    - Jesus, I am Resting
    - At the Name of Jesus
    - Great is Thy Faithfulness
    - Take My Life And Let It Be Consecrated
    - Here is Love Vast as The Ocean
    - And Can It Be
    - One There Is Above All Others

    Some newer songs that qualify as hymns:

    - The Soul of Every Living Thing (Stuart Dauermann)
    - There is a Hope So Sure (Graham Kendrick)
    - Before the Throne of God Above (words from 18th c, music by Vicki Cook)
    - Anything written by Keith and Kristyn Getty

    Yeah! Hymns are a way of worship that will never fade...In times like these when gospel music seems to be adulterated a bit, hymns still stand the test of time, My favorite ones are:

    - When I survey the wondrous cross.
    - When Peace like river attendeth my way.
    - All Hail the power of Jesus name.
    - Take my life and let it be.
    - My hope is built on nothing less.

    I like hymns, and I like them quite a bit better than the bulk of contemporary Christian stuff. Favourites: "It Is Well With My Soul" and "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing."

    I was thinking as I read the posts of people's favorite hymns that the difference with the type of hymn we like or do not like, relates directly to our relationship with Christ and how we understand worship.


    There is a thin line sometimes between worship and entertainment. I do not like entertainment in a Sunday morning church service, but WORSHIP opens my soul to be ready for a message that feeds spiritual growth.


    When I hear a worship song that I know the words to, then worship of God starts to happen, because I close my eyes. But it has to be a song that is focused on HIM.


    "In Him Alone".

    I like (some) hymns, but I'm not a big fan of the organ.  I always want to sing 'take me out to the ball game' every time it starts playing.

    I also find it interesting that people speak of hymns as if they're some sort of ancient tradition.  Nearly vast majority of the hymns sung in churches today are from the last 200 years or so. There are a few that were written earlier (All Creatures of our God and King in the 13th century) but put to music/translated a few hundred years later.  While they're definitely a piece of our history as Christians, in the context of 2,000 years of Christianity, most of these hymns are relatively new.

    Yes, I very much like hymns. In my church we sing from the "Red Song Book" the songs that have shaped our denomination and stand the test of time.

    Growing up in a Presbyterian church, I grew to appreciate hymns. But not until recently, as my church remakes the music of the hymns, have I truly fell in love with them.

    I love most hymns.  Hard to pick a favorite.  We don't get to sing them  often enough at my church.

    I looooove hymns. I chose to sing those to my sons as infants rather than traditional lullabies, and wouldn't you know it, by 2 years old my oldest was singing Holy, Holy, Holy all by himself...the whole thing :)  Other favorites in our house are Joyful, Joyful, Amazing Grace, Rock of Ages, Be Thou My Vision, and Victory in Jesus.

    I grew up with hymns, and I love them!  Having said that, I also have continued a long trek through worshipping territory, and there is something so pure about lifting up Jesus outside the confines of a hymnbook.


    The church I attend now uses hymns sparingly, and that is okay.  It still is very different from my previous church in the New Orleans area.  My pastors were very annointed worshippers, and we entered into the presence of God very quickly and deeply at every service, unless we were resisting the tug of the Holy Spirit drawing us past our problems.


    But listening to and singing hymns has a calming effect on me.  It grounds me back to the bedrock belief that God is my all and He is in control.  Even eagles need to land sometime.

    i LOVE them. i have my own hymn book that i got from the church i grew up in before i left the united states

    and many more I can't quite remember at the moment

    I like a lot of them, they are not as focused on being catchy so they are more likely to be sincere. But some of them have lyrics I don't agree with, also, so it just depends.
