by mr willowUnfortunately, economics are something I know very little about, since working musicians seldom have large investments to manage. (Note to self: Make new "Will Compose for Food" sign.) I do know that sometimes the best way to deal with a problem is to laugh about it. Fortunately, I also know of some cartoons that address things more creatively.
The only sure things in life are...
Well, those and the price of gas going up:

So you should educate yourself on the principles of economics:

And always look on the bright side:

Be encouraged: you're not the only one who's hard up....

Even good people can have rough times:

It may help to find an additional source of income.

You might consult a book for creative ideas of how to be an entrepreneur:

Or consider a mid-life career change:

But remember that chasing the end of the rainbow doesn't always turn out well:

Find ways to cut costs and save:

And if all goes well, you'll be....

What are some silver linings that you see in our struggling economy?

Well, at least you're trying to be funny.
well at least you have a sense of humour about you, and the silver lining knock on wood but gas just went down to 337 around here
i do not think it is so unfortunate that you do not know much about economics...people over analyzing and freaking out about it is not helping the matter at all. i think it can give us a better opportunity to trust the Lord for our provision if we let it, when everything doesn't go quite the way we plan and by our own hand (or at least we think).Â
however, personally, i am used to not having money and have just begun to understand how blessed i really am even when i don't think i have anything...really, i have much, and all that i need, and i don't think the rising costs and less jobs are shocking him or going to cause him to be that much less faithful...i think he will be just as faithful as before, and if my cheese costs .74 cents more than it used to, the Lord will provide that extra .74 cents when I go to buy cheese.
p.s. i actually did not see the plane at first...that's pretty silly

The pastor I know predicts a bleak future for the US. I am not worried yet but in 4 years I will be. lol
Jokes are a way for people to stay sane in an insane situation... thankfully I personally have not been hit by the falling economy (yet) but it's very real for some people.
Yes, freaking out does not help matters much.
well, i'm thankful for not being a billionaire with a lot of money to lose--it's easier for me to be happy.
this can be seen as my silver lining or the bronze lining of reality. either way, God is good
@SnuggleBug2008@xanga - Dude. ours is still around 3.60/3.70
I'm personally happy with the choice of Pearls Before Swine -- it's becoming a favorite of mine!
One of the "good" things for us right now is that we have a lot of Student Loan debt (but that's it). We haven't been able to save more than an emergency fund, so we haven't really lost a ton of money because of this. Just the usual 5.74%. The bad side? Many people are losing their jobs where I live. We still have ours! But for how long?
I need to see more humor in these situations, I'm glad you posted this!
Silver lining for me:
I'll finish school next summer, and sometime after that will be looking to buy my first house (maybe not immediately, but probably no more than a year after that). With home prices plummeting, I (along with any other first time home buyers) will benefit the more prices drop.
I haven't invested too much into a retirement account yet (just have a small Roth IRA so far), so there's a good chance when I get a job and start actually having "major investments" that I'll be starting when the market is relatively low.
I'll be taking a job in the medical industry. While an economic downturn won't help by any means, at least the field is much less affected my the markets than many other sectors of the economy. I guess this one isn't so much a silver lining, but just a reason for me not to worry so much.
