We receive quite a few messages from people asking for help with certain issues, and often times, we're not sure how to relate or answer the person's question - which is where you guys come in! Every Thursday, we feature a reader's problem and leave it open for you guys to offer your two cents. Please feel free to message us here for advice! It can be about anything from family, relationships, devotional life or struggles in faith. Don't worry, we'll keep you anonymous.

    Today's advice post:

My best friend became Christian almost exactly a year ago - her "Christian birthday," as she calls it, is actually coming up in a couple of weeks, and my friends and I would like to celebrate the occasion and encourage her with a small get-together at my apartment.

Have you ever done this for anyone? I'm not the most creative person around, so I'd like to hear some suggestions from you all about how to celebrate, and if there's any way I can incorporate some kind of Christian theme into party without it being too corny. So far, all I've thought of is making her a scrapbook of pictures/notes/verses. Also, we want to make this a surprise party, but I don't know if that would be too weird...and if it's not a surprise, how we would even present the idea to her. Party-planners...help!

(Food/decoration suggestions would be good too )

That's a cool idea! I think a surprise party would be fine, provided she's normally ok with surprises. The scrapbook idea is fabulous. If I were her, I would love that.

Otherwise, I would probably keep it fairly low-key. But that's coming from my personal preferences. Your friend might have a more flamboyant personality than I do.

Hey, it's a party! You can give her any kind of party she wants, so long as nobody gets drunk or goes upstairs. :P

How about a private Micheal W. Smith concert, Holy land tour, followed by a telephone call from Billy Graham.

Ah, don't have that many conections? I say anything you do will be fun. That is a great idea. I wish I had friends like you. In real land.

    Huge Props!

Christian music would be awesome. Maybe get her some cd's. Chrisitian jewely would be cool, too. If you can find a good Christian concert to take her to, that would be wonderful. I would string banners, have balloons and confetti. The whole party thing will be something she won't forget and don't forget to take pics!

The food.............hmmm........any party food is good. Get her a cake with a pic of a Christian symbol on it. They can surely make something up with a fish symbol! I'd have punch (not spiked, of course) and serve chips and dips. Maybe some finger foods. Talk to some of the other folks you're inviting and ask them for their opinions. They might have some cool ideas. You sound like you're an awesome friend and I agree with bubbadirt. I wish I had a friend like you, too.

How thoughtful!  I've never done anything like that but what a great encouragement to stay in the walk of God!  I agree with SealedbyGrace on the cake thing, I was going to suggest that.  Surely you, or a friend, could bake a cake in the form of a Icthus?  Christian music, of course, is a wonderful idea.  The scrapbook sounds awesome. Props to you for thinking of it.  And since you're going low key, I think some veggies and dip, maybe lil smokies, chips & dip, punch/pop would be a great party.  Def stick with finger foods. Chicken wings?  Something like that.  And honestly, this may sound tacky to some people, but if it's low key (and assumingly on a budget?) you could just get some balloons and draw an Icthus on them, or tape clip-arts or anything Christian-themed on them.  If it's an intimate gathering like I assume it is since she's your bff, then it will be light-hearted and funny and she'll appreciate that you're even doing anything at all, so the decorations don't have to be top-notch.

Besides noting it, I've never had any parties or such.

However, on this day, 22 years ago, I was baptized (a few days after I, as a child, responded to an altar call) (Link

Sounds like a great idea! I agree that the scrapbook idea would be great, or something like a heart or cross necklace...some keepsake jewrely she could remember. It doesn't have to be expensive, something at the Christian bookstore, maybe. But I think as long as it has a special meaning behind it, then it would be speical to her. Anything would, I'm sure!

I like the streamers/balloons and finger foods ideas too!

But, yeah. Try not to make it too tacky with the symbols and such. Then
it can be almost, erm, what's the word...something along the lines of
being fun of. the word escapes me.

Maybe have celebrtory verses written on placemats or balloons. Really joyful...
OH, and Proverbs as well. There's some fun life quotes and such in there.

    @Pass_the_Aura@xanga - I lol'd.
